How do I do a wet stretch test?

Watch this video here for a guide on how to do a wet stretch test on your hair.

How often should I wash my hair?

This depends on your hair, but less is more. Talk to Michelle for your unique OCS product prescription and how you should aim to be using these for the optimum health of your hair.

How often should I do a treatment?

You should be doing a treatment on your hair every fourth wash. This would be following 2 thorough shampoo and rinses, apply your treatment for 15mins and thoroughly rinse, then apply your conditioner and leave in your hair for 5mins, and thoroughly rinse.

Do I need to wash my hair before my appointment?

No. Our products need your hair to be pre-treated before we colour your hair, so we will wash your hair for you. No need to worry about washing your hair before your appointment.

Why do you need to detox my hair?

Typical hair products use silicones which coat your hair. We use activated charcoal to detox your hair and remove this coating from your hair so that we can build the integrity and health of your hair.

Do you stock olaplex?

No. We believe in long term health of your hair, and not providing a quick fix solution. Our products will rebuild your hair for healthier hair from root to tip.

We have amazing products for blondes too, such has silver shampoo that helps to keep the yellows away.

Skin Sensitivity Test?

Skin Sensitivity tests are requirement of all Colour Companies, prior to a colour service. This is to check for any skin sensitivities or reactions. Before your first appointment, you will be given a skin sensitivity test to complete 48hrs prior to your first appointment.

Skin Sensitivity Test Instructions:

  1. Wash a small area of skin on the inside of the elbow or between the shoulder blades.
  2. Dry gently & then apply a small amount of colour to the skin. Allow to dry. The colour may be covered with a plaster or left uncovered.
  3. Leave on the skin for 2 hrs before rinsing, unless there is immediate irritation.

Please contact me if you experience any sensitivities or reactions.

What happens in a consultation?

During your consultation we will do a wet stretch test to check on the health of your hair and what products are needed for your hair. We do this when we wet your hair, then take a few strands of hair and gently stretch them and see how well they bounce back or for breakages. This allows us to know which products you should be prescribed.

We will also consult with you on what your hair goals are, particularly if you are looking for complex colouring.

We will take you through our process, the products and the Organic Colour Systems system.

Are your products tested on animals?

Absolutely not. Our products are cruelty free and have not been tested on animals.

OCS are internationally recognised by animal welfare organisations Choose Cruelty Free and PETA.

Is the packaging recyclable?

Yes, all our OCS bottles are fully recyclable, and you can recycle your home care and styling product bottle in your normal home recycling too.

Organic Colour Systems proudly use recycled and recyclable packaging across their colour, care and styling ranges.

All Davroe’s plastic product bottles are made from food grade PET and PP which is 100% recyclable. All distribution boxes and product packaging are made from recycled cardboard.

How do I book?

Can I have my hair coloured after COVID 19 or the COVID 19 vaccination?

Based on the evidence of hairdressers and beauticians around the world, it is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks after having your COVID 19 vaccination before you get your hair coloured. This is also recommended if you have recovered from COVID 19.

It is also recommended that you carry out a skin sensitivity test at least 48 hours prior to your next colour appointment following either your vaccination or your recovery.

If you have any questions, please get in touch. To request a skin sensitivity test before your next colour appointment, please also get in touch.

What is the Curly Girl Method?

The Curly Girl Method (CGM) is comprised of a set of rules which people follow to enhance their natural wave, curl, or coil pattern, reduce frizz, damage, breakage and dryness. In simple terms, the Curly Girl Method centres around avoiding ingredients that can negatively affect curls, adding ingredients that can hydrate, condition, repair and enhance.

The three most incremental factors that make a product Curly Girl Friendly is the exclusion of silicons, sulphates and drying alcohols.

The method revolves around a few key pillars, which drive the exclusion of those ingredients;

1) Not using ingredients that build up on the hair, or require ‘harsh’ soaps or surfactants to remove them.

This brings to mind the typical silicones that can build up on the hair, but can also include a range of other ingredients, such as waxes and mineral oils, that individuals may avoid based on the degree to which they follow this method. These are avoided as CMG does not use Sulfates to remove these products.

2) Not over cleansing the hair with traditional shampoos that can dry out or strip the hair, via surfactants such as Sulfates.

This can also include avoiding the use of surfactants that are traditionally labeled as gentle in the hair care community. The reasoning behind this difference of opinion comes from the basis that Curly Girls do not apply any products that build up on the hair, so only need very gentle cleansing to wash and refresh the hair, rather than cleansing agents that aim to remove products build up, styling agents, silicones, waxes etc.

3) Hydration, hydration, hydration!

This method praises the scalps natural oils, and focuses heavily on hydrating hair that is textured or dry inherently. This is yet another reason that drying ingredients, such as drying alcohols and cleansing agents, are strictly avoided.
